Standards & Accreditations

Certified fabrication you can verify. Every qualification we list is held, current, and independently validated.

Our Certifications

BS EN ISO 9606
Held

Coded Welding Certification

Our welders are certified to BS EN ISO 9606 for fusion welding of metallic materials. This is the international standard for welder qualification testing, requiring independent assessment of technique, material knowledge, and weld integrity. Each welder is individually tested and their certification is regularly renewed.

BS 4872
Held

Fabrication Approval Testing

BS 4872 covers approval testing of welders working to general fabrication standards. This certification validates our team's competence in producing consistent, quality welds across a range of materials and joint types used in everyday fabrication work.

City & Guilds 2222
Held

Level 2 Award in Welding Skills

The City & Guilds 2222 qualification is a nationally recognised Level 2 Award in Welding Skills. It provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills required for precision metalwork, covering MIG, TIG, and MMA welding processes.

CHAS
Completing

Health & Safety Accreditation

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) is a SSIP-recognised scheme that validates our health and safety policies, risk assessments, and safe working practices. We are currently completing this accreditation.

Public Liability Insurance

Comprehensive public liability insurance covering all site work and installations. Documentation available on request.

Employers' Liability Insurance

Full employers' liability coverage for our team, as required by law. Ensuring our workforce is protected on every project.

What is BS EN 1090?

BS EN 1090 is the European standard for the execution of steel and aluminium structures. It sets the requirements for conformity assessment of structural components and kits, and is linked to CE/UKCA marking for structural steelwork products placed on the market.

The standard covers factory production control, material traceability, welding procedures, and quality management systems. It applies primarily to load-bearing structural steelwork that forms part of a building or civil engineering works.

Certification to BS EN 1090 requires independent third-party auditing and ongoing compliance monitoring. It is considered the gold standard for structural steel fabricators in the UK and Europe.

Our Position

Colemans Steel does not currently hold BS EN 1090 certification. We are transparent about this because we believe honesty builds trust. Our coded welders hold individual qualifications (BS EN ISO 9606, BS 4872, City & Guilds 2222) and we fabricate to the specifications provided by our clients' structural engineers. Achieving BS EN 1090 certification is part of our business development roadmap.

All metalwork is fabricated to the specifications provided by the client's structural engineer or architect. Final compliance with Building Regulations is subject to the overall building design and is confirmed through Building Control approval.
